Standing By: Gatz Backstage is an atmospheric portrait of life behind the scenes of Gatz, the ground-breaking performance work created by Elevator Repair Service in which the entirety of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is brought to life on stage. Captured during the show’s run in London in 2012, this exclusive documentary offers a unique perspective from the sidelines of the Noel Coward theatre as the cast and crew prepare for performance.
Hailed by Ben Brantley in the New York Times as “the most remarkable achievement in theater not only of this year but also of this decade”, the eight-hour production of Gatz sees Fitzgerald’s classic unfold in front of a restless office worker as he begins to read the book aloud. This intimate insight into the backstage processes of creating theatre was directed by Shaun Irons.
