“Mitch’s relationship with his mother is extremely essential to who he is.”
Dexter Flanders provides a character analysis of Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire for Chelsea Walker’s modern adaptation performed at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton in 2018.
Flanders explores some of the reasons for Mitch’s behaviour in the play, particularly how his relationship with his mother impacts the way he responds to women, and examines the dynamic between Mitch and Blanche, considering how Mitch will often try to please Blanche by following her lead.
