“What Iago does is he takes Othello from being more in love than he’s ever been in his life…and by the end of the scene he believes his wife has been false to him and, worse than that, he believes that her punishment should be death.”
In this exclusive rehearsal footage, captured behind the scenes of English Touring Theatre’s Othello, director Richard Twyman and the actors who brought the characters of Othello and Iago to life explore a scene, rehearsing the lines before analysing each moment in great detail.
They consider how this scene changes the course of the play, elucidating how Iago is able to set Othello down such a self-destructive path through his carefully considered rhetoric, his mirroring of Othello’s own language and rhythms, as well as his ability to tap into Othello’s insecurity and paranoia.
