“The real human reality is that loving relationships can turn bad.”
Kitty Archer plays the role of Desdemona in English Touring Theatre’s contemporary production of Othello. Archer provides a key analysis of her character, mapping Desdemona's emotional journey from the beginning to the very end and exploring the brutality and challenges of playing the final scene.
Archer also details her research into the history of the text, highlighting the universality of themes such as appearance and perception, religion and equality, and considers the damaging effects of the patriarchy and male expectation on both the men and women in the play.
