“The only way I can find out about a piece of equipment is to try and break it. And if I do break it then I have to try and figure out how to fix it. And all of that then kind of aids my knowledge.”
Victoria explains that she considers there to be two broad camps of programmer and how they are usually brought onto a project by a lighting designer, making it a hard role to break into as a freelancer.
She discusses the importance of a sense of humour and a personable approach to what can easily become a very isolated role, and why preparation is often undervalued, underrated and neglected, but entirely essential.
