“By juxtaposing what you’ve got with other people, you totally change the personality of whatever you make.”
Playwright and novelist Barney Norris, whose recent work includes Nightfall at Nicholas Hytner’s Bridge Theatre, gives an honest depiction of his experience as a young writer, from studying English Literature at university to working with British theatre company Out of Joint.
Norris discusses how being immersed in specific landscapes and surrounding himself with talented individuals has influenced his practice, and offers essential guidance for any aspiring writer and theatre-maker, emphasising the value of rejection and the importance of collaboration.
