Indhu Rubasingham, Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre, and Lolita Chakrabarti, actor and playwright, collaborated to create Red Velvet for the stage in 2012.
Chakrabarti tells of the research that went into crystallising a narrative that did justice to Aldridge's remarkable career, Rubasingham describes how the play could never have been commissioned, and both speak of how their long-term collaborative relationship enabled the story to finally make it to the stage.
