“The curse of Macbeth is that it's a very difficult play to pull off.”
The Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Gregory Doran, discusses his experience of working on Macbeth for both stage and screen.
Doran talks at length about defining the world of the play, comparing the differences between theatre and film using Macbeth’s key speeches as an example. He also reflects on exploring the darkness of Shakespeare’s writing by leveraging the actor’s fears to heighten tension in the performance.
