About

Founded in 2009, Digital Theatre+ is the world’s leading educational platform for the study of performing arts and dramatic texts. Today, we provide over 3,000 schools, colleges and universities across almost 100 countries with unlimited access to thousands of full-length productions and educational resources.

Digital Theatre+ is an educational platform providing institutions around the world with access to theatre productions and educational resources to support the teaching of ELA and Theatre.

Digital Theatre.com is our consumer platform, where theatre fans can subscribe on a monthly or annual basis to stream theatre productions on demand. Digital Theatre.com must not be used for educational purposes or mass-viewing, as the content is specifically licensed for individual personal use only.

While you could spend time searching Google or YouTube for free resources to use in your classes, with Digital Theatre+ you can access relevant and appropriate materials tailored to your teaching.

Our team of experienced commissioners oversees all of the content created at Digital Theatre+ to ensure it’s of the highest quality and relevance to your teaching, and we’re proud to partner with leading arts organisations including Shakespeare’s Globe, Frantic Assembly, Donmar Warehouse, the Royal Shakespeare Company and BroadwayHD to bring you a captivating and exclusive collection of world-class theatre.

Content

We currently only offer annual subscriptions to the entire platform. One of the many benefits of Digital Theatre+ is that, alongside the productions, you can also access an array of relevant resources to support your teaching, including lesson plans, study guides, interviews and more. Get in touch with a member of our team to discover the entire collection.

Digital Theatre+ is used by students from middle school (ages 11+) all the way through to undergraduate and postgraduate students at university.

Since Digital Theatre+ is used by students of all ages, the platform does contain some content with more adult or potentially triggering themes.

A resource is usually categorised as containing adult themes if it features one or more of the following: strong or offensive language, discriminatory themes or language, nudity or sex, violence, substance use or abuse, suicide or other traumatic themes.

We mark such content as 'contains adult themes' and can prevent access to this content for your institution when required.

Our team of commissioners oversee all of the content created at Digital Theatre+, ensuring that each resource aligns with your curriculum/standards. With backgrounds in theatre, publishing and education, their knowledge and expertise is the guiding force behind everything that Digital Theatre+ produces.

Our full-time team is also supported by the Digital Theatre+ Advisory Boards, a collection of renowned scholars, educators and practitioners chosen for their skill and expertise in theatre and education. These steering groups collaborate with us to advise on content creation and acquisition, site development, partnerships, projects, ethics and aesthetics, ensuring that schools and universities receive the best quality resources.

Where possible, we seek to license content that is available worldwide. In a small number of cases, content might be unavailable in certain countries due to licensing restrictions.

At Digital Theatre+ we are committed to continuing to improve diversity, equity, inclusion and representation within our content. Below are some of the actions we are taking, but if you have any suggestions for how we can do more, please get in touch with publishing@digitaltheatre.com.

  • Casting actors of a full range of genders, ethnicities and (dis)abilities within our created and co-created content, and making clear to our theatre industry partners that we encourage them to do the same
  • Keeping considerations of DEI, including telling stories of inclusion and exclusion, as a key priority in all content acquisition decisions
  • Handling difficult topics sensitively, including getting this content reviewed externally, and providing support for teachers to do the same in their classrooms
  • Exploring additional product features to support access, such as audio descriptions and transcripts, and carrying out regular accessibility reviews with external partners

Access

The easiest and most reliable way to give your students access to Digital Theatre+ is by setting up Single Sign On (SSO) authentication for your institution. Using SSO means that all users can log into Digital Theatre+ with their usual email address, without needing to remember a separate set of usernames and passwords for our service.

If you have any questions about SSO, please get in touch via support@digitaltheatreplus.com.

Yes! Your subscription gives you and your students 24/7 access to the platform on any device, whether they’re learning in class or at home.

Digital Theatre+ is built to work across all major browsers, screen sizes and input methods. The platform is accessible for those with visual impairments, as well as being fully navigable by keyboard. For more information, please visit our Accessibility Statement.

Privacy & Security

Digital Theatre+ recommends using Single Sign On (SSO) with SAML to authenticate your users to our service, but additional options are available should you require them. These include Username and Password, IPv4 and/or IPv6 IP Authentication, or IPv4 and/or IPv6 Authentication with Proxy.

If you have any questions about authentication options, or have specific needs you would like to discuss, please get in touch via support@digitaltheatreplus.com.

We’ve built Digital Theatre+ from the ground up using trusted and secure technologies, partnering with a leading cloud identity and access management provider to ensure your account and identity are protected.

All of our services are secure and personal information is encrypted. We don't use your personal information for anything other than authentication and we don’t share any data with third parties, so you can rest assured that you aren’t being tracked for advertising or marketing purposes.

Getting started

If you’re just getting started on your Digital Theatre+ journey, speak to a member of our team to find out what DT+ can do for you. They’ll give you a personalised tour with the platform and, if you so wish, set you up with a free trial to explore DT+ for yourself.

Once you start your subscription, or even while trialling the platform, you’ll be sent an activation email and invited to set your password. When your subscription goes live, you can continue using this personal login to access Digital Theatre+ yourself, but will also need to set up access for your students using Single Sign On (SSO). This means that all users can log into Digital Theatre+ with their usual email address, without needing to remember a separate set of usernames and passwords for our service.

Typically, setting up Single Sign On (SSO) to give your students access to Digital Theatre+ is performed by your IT team and the DT+ Support Team.

Your account login is only valid for your personal use, but once your institution is set up with access to Digital Theatre+, your colleagues and students will also be able to access the platform using their own email addresses.

If you’re a customer who is having trouble logging in – or with anything else – please contact our support team on support@digitaltheatreplus.com.
