“These great, great soliloquies are like huge mountain faces that an actor takes an audience up to try and reach the peak.”
Director Rupert Goold and producer John Wyver provide a feature-length audio commentatory on their film version of Macbeth starring Sir Patrick Stewart in the title role.
Goold explains how he used the medium of film to explore language, characters and key themes, such as masculinity and ambition, in his Cold War interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy. He also discusses his decision to cast the Witches as hospital nurses and comments on how the camera can be used to create sensual and emotional environments on location at Welbeck Abbey.
