“This is not just a place of looking at the period of Shakespeare's time like it was a museum, it’s a living theatre.”
A tribute to the realisation of Sam Wanamaker’s vision when Shakespeare’s Globe was rebuilt in 1997, this film offers a glimpse at the inner workings of a unique performing arts venue.
Whilst remaining faithful to the historic playing conditions, a series of actors, musicians, directors and experts demonstrate their craft and explain how they’re working to make Shakespeare’s work accessible. Renowned for its iconic open-air theatre, this documentary follows the Globe from ideation to the centre it has become today, complete with an extensive education programme, exhibitions and truthful retellings of the playwright’s work.
