Our latest Professional Learning Experience "Checking Out Me History": Teaching Black Poetry saw educators from around the world join together to get new ideas and inspiration to engage their students with poetry, and more specifically, the work of Black poets.

Led by Digital Theatre+ Educator Success Specialist Dr Anna Bean, our engaging panel included Dr Wendy R. Coleman, educator and Dean for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University in Montgomery (Alabama, USA) and Mark Thompson, award-winning poet, performer and educator (South London, UK).

This invaluable session provided fascinating insights into how lived experience, history and culture help poets create their work to bring context to students' learning. Our panel also looked at key audience questions including what they consider to be 'Black poetry', teaching this content with positivity and addressing language.
